When To Take a Pregnancy Test

Pregnancy test

Although the pregnancy test tool has become so familiar. When there is a need to determine if they and their partners are about to become parents, not everyone knows how to do the test properly. In fact, a lot of people use the pregnancy test tool shortly after sex which leads to false results. So to help you to have a proper pregnancy test result, here is our guide for when you should take a pregnancy test.

The Best Time to Take a Pregnancy Test

Pregnancy Test

For a pregnancy test result to be accurate, you should use the tool after about one week that you have a missed period. Although you are impatient to be pregnant and don’t want to wait until your period comes to know the result, at least wait patiently for a week or two after having sex to take the test. The reason for this is after successfully conceiving, your body will need some time to secrete the amount of hCG that can be detected by the pregnancy test.

Experts say at least 50 hCG units are needed in the urine for pregnancy tests to give a more accurate result. For some people, this amount of hCG can reach 50 units even before they find their periods are missing. Conversely, there will be cases where it takes more time for the body to generate enough amount of hCG. Therefore, If you take the pregnancy test early, you may get the wrong result. If the pregnancy test shows that you are not pregnant, but you have not yet had your period, you should try again after 3 days. Another important note is that you should use a pregnancy test in the morning because this is the time when hCG levels in urine are highest.

Signs Show that You Should Take a Pregnancy Test

Late Menstruation

Late menstruation is one of the earliest pregnancy symptoms you can easily spot. If you do not track your monthly menstrual routine, it may be more difficult to determine if you are really having a late period. Usually, you’d have a menstrual cycle of about 28 days, so you may want to consider using a pregnancy test one month after your last period.

In addition, you should also pay attention to the amount of blood during your period if you suspect you are pregnant. You may experience bleeding when your embryo moves and attaches to the wall of the uterus. Many people mistake this with a normal menstrual cycle. However, there are many other causes of delayed menstruation despite not being pregnant such as psychological stress, your diet, or doing different exercises. Therefore, you should review your overall health status before believing that missed periods are due to pregnancy.

You Feel Exhausted

If the conception happened, your body will produce more progesterone to prepare for your pregnancy period. This hormone raises your body temperature and makes you burn more energy. Your heart rate will also increase to ensure adequate oxygen supply to the ovaries. Furthermore, your body will have to work more than usual to supply nutrients to both you and your baby. As a result, you may feel tired in the first week of pregnancy. In addition, because your baby needs extra oxygen to develop, sometimes you will find it difficult to breathe.

You Have Cramps

The process of conception can cause a reaction in your body similar to the sensation of cramps during menstruation. At this stage, you may feel uncomfortable and think your period is coming. But then the period may come later than usual. This is one of the most noticeable signs of pregnancy, but it is often overlooked in the early stages of pregnancy. Take a pregnancy test if you notice this sign.

Your Breasts have some Changes

During pregnancy, the amount of hormones estrogen and progesterone will be produced more and the body will gradually appear to change to support baby nursing. One of the first changes you may notice is that your breasts may become more sensitive, tight, and increase in size due to increased blood flow in this area. The nipple may also become darker and the veins under the skin will become more prominent. If you notice these changes, you may want to take the pregnancy test to confirm.

Other Symptoms of Pregnancy

Morning sickness

Along with the symptoms of cramps, exhaustion, and tight breasts,  you may find other unusual symptoms show up if you are pregnant. These symptoms include nausea, losing appetite, and frequent urination. These symptoms may show up very early in the first 3 months of pregnancy. Normally you will start to experience nausea and lose your appetite in about 4 – 8 weeks of pregnancy. If you notice these symptoms appear more and more clearly, it will prove that your level of hCG is now enough for the pregnancy test.

Your Contraception Failed

Even if you use a condom or birth control pill, there is always a small percentage that you will get pregnant after having sex. Currently, no contraceptive method can completely prevent you from getting pregnant apart from sterilization. Therefore, if you find your body has the mentioned symptoms after a short time having sex, you should take a pregnancy test for reassurance.

There you go, now you know when you should take a pregnancy test. Remember that impatience can lead to false results. So wait a little bit and make sure that you follow the test instructions. Do you have any questions? Let us know in the comments!

A Guide for the Pregnancy Test

Pregnancy test

Although the pregnancy test tool has become so familiar to women when there is a need to determine if they and their husbands are about to become parents, many people are quite confused and do not fully understand the meaning of the lines that are shown on a pregnancy test. Here is our simple guide to help you read the pregnancy test result.

What is a Pregnancy Test and How to Use It?

A pregnancy test is a tool to help you to check whether you are pregnant or not. This tool mechanism is quite simple. It will respond to the hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) concentration in the urine sample, also known as the pregnancy hormone. Only during conception, the concentration of HCG in urine will appear and increase to confirm that a baby is growing up in your belly.

Early signs and symptoms of pregnancy if you think you're expecting

There are many types and brands of pregnancy tests on the market. The relative use of a pregnancy test is not too complicated. Most of them have the following basic steps:

  • Read the instructions carefully before using the container
  • Wash your hands with warm water and soap, then carefully remove the test strip from the box and wrap.
  • Prepare a device (cup / small cup) for urine
  • Insert the pregnancy test strip into the urine container with the arrow pointing down. Note: Do not allow the urine to flood the arrows.
  • Leave the stick in the cup for 5-10 minutes and then lift it.
  • Read the result on the pregnancy test.

A Correct Way To Read A Pregnancy Test

Though many electronic pregnancy test devices can tell you the result accurately, the pregnancy test stick/strip is the most common device as they are not expensive and can be bought everywhere.

The Stick Shows 2 Bold Colored Lines

Congratulations, you are pregnant!!. Now you should make an appointment with your doctor for further examination and tests. After that, you can start monitoring the pregnancy.

Pregnancy Symptoms: 14 Early Signs You May Be Pregnant | Parents

The Stick Shows 1 Bold Line And 1 Faint Line

This result shows that you are probably pregnant. But it is possible that the fetus has just formed an embryo and the HCG concentration is still low, leading to the color of the line being quite pale. The longer you conceive, the more visible the color. It is best to try again after a few days. To make sure, you can visit your doctor to do tests and get an accurate result.

The Stick shows 2 Faint lines:

This result may have different meanings:

  • You are pregnant but still early to confirm. So please wait a few more days and try again.
  • You are pregnant but have an early miscarriage. Due to early miscarriage, the strip still detects the presence of hCG in the urine, but there is no live embryo.
  • You are not pregnant, and the reason is that you leave the test strip outside for too long before reading the results.

There is only 1 Bold line

This result normally means that you are not pregnant. But if you still think you are pregnant, you can try the test again after a few days or visit your doctor for a proper test.

No Line Appears On The Stick

In this case, the results cannot be read. The pregnancy test has failed due to improper storage, or the urine sample is not guaranteed or handling is incorrect. When this happens, you should use another strip, read the instructions carefully and try again.

The Result of a Pregnancy Test may be not Correct in Some Situations

  • You are having an ectopic pregnancy, a false pregnancy. This may lead to false results or the results may be different at each time. In some cases, you may have a non-pregnant result, but you still experience the obvious symptoms of pregnancy
  • The result will be incorrect if you have an ovarian cyst.
  • If you drink too much water before the pregnancy test, the HCG levels will be diluting, leading to inaccurate results.
  • IF you use poor quality, imitation or expired stick, applying the most accurate pregnancy test method still does not give the correct results.
  • Medicines such as diuretics, tranquilizers, and antibiotics are more or less likely to cause false test results.

Twins pregnancy 101 | Pregnancy Tips

Twins are getting more common nowadays. According to the CDC,   One in every 30 births will result in twins. If you are having twins, prepare that you will get double in everything than a normal pregnancy. It is no doubt that having twins will bring you wonderful emotions but also double the worries. Here is our guide to things you should know if you are having twins to help you be more proactive about your delivery.

Twin and C – Section

90% of women who are having twins think that they must have a C – Section to deliver their baby. In fact, you can deliver your babies by vaginal birth. About one-third of the twins are born vaginally. Different factors will decide your delivery method. Your babies’ lying position is the main factor. If the first baby, or both babies, are in a head-down position (cephalic), you can plan to give birth vaginally. After the first baby is born, the second baby is born equally fast. The time of the birth of the two babies is less than 60 minutes apart

However, some medical reasons may make you have to take a C – section when giving birth to twins. If you have a cesarean section before, it is not recommended to have a vaginal birth. The possibility of a cesarean section is very high if you have a narrow pelvis or your babies are bigger than usual.

You may Give Birth Sooner than Normal Pregnancy

Reports show that women who are having twins pregnancy commonly give birth sooner than usuals. It ‘s more likely that you will give birth at around the 36th or 37th week of your pregnancy. However, remember that every woman has a different practical situation and will give birth differently so be prepared for every possibility.

It’s a good idea to Prepare for Your Labor

Preparing for Pregnancy | MyCong

To avoid complications, doctors usually appoint pregnant women to give birth earlier than the due date as twins are usually born earlier than expected. Therefore, you should take advantage of the time to get a plan for your labor. Contact your healthcare provider to help you make your plans. You should consider which hospital you should go to and what essentials you should prepare. You also should make some predictions and solutions if any problems happen. Doing this will help you a lot during labor and make you feel more secure. Having an ultrasound and prenatal check-up will help your doctor easily know your baby’s developmental progress to provide you the best advice.

Twin Pregnancy Requires Double care

Mothers who are pregnant with twins need more support than usual as their bellies are bigger. This will make it harder to do anything. So don’t be shy to ask for help if you need something. Tell your friends and family about how you feel and what you need. Your loved ones will always open to help you.

You also should contact your health care provider more often. They will help you notice the preterm labor and provide you the best support.  As twins normally born sooner than usual pregnancy, some birth complications may happen. Following your healthcare provider’s instruction will help you limit the chance of these complications.

You need to eat well and Rest well

You will need much more energy than normal pregnancy as you are carrying 2 babies now.  So make sure you maintain a healthy diet to supplement nutrients to your little ones. Taking a nap when it is possible and going to bed earlier will also help you save energy. Consult your healthcare provider about diet, exercise, and rest will make it easier for you. And remember to stay away from harmful things such as alcohol and tobacco smokes.

11 Signs that Show Your Labor Is Coming soon

Labor or childbirth is the process of your baby leaving the uterus (womb) and coming to the world. You have finished the preparation to welcome your baby to the world but you wonder when the labor will start, how it will feel and how long it will take. They are also common questions for other new mothers. Although it is hard to describe exactly the feeling and the duration of labor as each mother has different birth time, you are able to spot if your labor is near. There are different signs to show that your baby is coming. Let’s find out what those signs are

Some signs tell you that you are weeks away from labor

Image result for pregnant due date

Your Baby Drops Or Moves Lower Into Your Pelvis

A few weeks before your baby is born, your baby will drop or descend into the pelvis. This process happens because your baby is getting into position and ready to exit your body.  You may feel your pelvis become heavier so you will find yourself walking harder and possibly waddling. There is good news: You will find it easier to breathe because your baby no longer occupies the space of the lungs, helping to reduce the pressure on the chest. For a first-time pregnant mother, this could be a sign of one week before labor. For subsequent births, the process doesn’t often happen until you’re truly in labor.

Your Cervix Dilates

You may notice that your cervix is enlarged, it starts to dilate and efface (thin out)  a few days or weeks before your baby comes. If a prenatal checkup is scheduled, your doctor will help you to check your cervical openness via an internal exam. Each pregnant mother will progress differently. So don’t be worried if your cervix dilates slower than normal.

More Cramps and Increased Back Pain

When you’re about to give birth, you’ll feel more cramping, pain in your groin and back, especially if it’s your first time having a baby. At this time, the joints in the pelvis and uterus are stretched to prepare the baby for birth.

You Stop Gaining Weight

At the end of pregnancy, your weight will tend to slow down or even lose a few pounds. This is normal and does not affect your baby’s development.  The reason for this process is that your amount of amniotic fluid is reducing in preparation for the upcoming labor.

How much pregnancy weight will I put on: charts, calculator and ...

Diarrhea Before Labor

As you are going to give birth, your muscles in the uterus begin to relax, preparing for childbirth. However, this process makes other muscles on your body relax as well, including the rectum area. This may make you have diarrhea. It is an uncomfortable experience. This sign will disappear when your baby is born.

Looser Joints

During pregnancy, relaxing hormones help your ligaments become softer and more elastic. Don’t be alarmed if you notice your joints loosen up. It is only a natural reaction to help the pelvis expand and show the most obvious signs of labor.

You Feel Tired And Just Want To Lie Down

At this stage, you may feel tired and exhausted like in the first trimester. Your belly becomes bigger and heavier as your baby prepares to come out. It may be difficult for you to sleep at night during the last few weeks of pregnancy. So whenever you feel sleepy, take a nap, if possible.

Nesting Instinct

Instead of feeling sleepy, some mothers feel extremely energized and more active than usual. As the labor day is coming near, you may want to get everything organized and prepared like cooking meals or preparing your baby’s room. This sign is called the Nesting instinct. It is not a bad thing. As long as you are careful and don’t overdo anything you will be fine. And you should rest too, you will need your energy for labor.

Other signs will tell you that you just days and hours before labor starts

The Contractions Are Getting Stronger And More Frequent

Contractions are the most obvious signs of labor. You will feel cramping as the uterus muscles are squeezing in preparation to push the baby out. However, not all contractions mean you’re in labor. You may randomly have contractions before true labor starts. They are called the Braxton-Hicks contractions and considered the “false labor”. You may experience these in the weeks right before your due date. It may be hard to tell the difference between true labor and false labor. To tell if you’re having true labor, here are some tips for you:

  • Real contractions will be stronger,  more painful and more uncomfortable.
  • The contractions do not decrease or disappear when you change positions.
  • The pain will start from the lower back and move gradually to the lower abdomen and finally to your legs.
  • The process of contraction: The frequency of contractions increases continuously and is more painful. The contractions last 30 – 70 seconds and are about 5-7 minutes apart.

Your Vaginal Mucus Changes Its Colors And Consistency

A few days before birth, you may notice more vaginal discharge and maybe a little thicker. The reason is that the mucus plugs the cervix to prevent infection, and will slough off in the uterus. The mucous plug is the cork sealing off your uterus from the outside world. In some cases, when the mucus plug is peeled off, there will be some thickened, pinkish discharge. This sign of birth is called the “bloody show” and it is a good signal that your due date is coming. However, if the contractions have not taken place or the uterus has not expanded by 3-4 cm, you may have to wait a few more days.

Vaginal bleeding is an important sign of labor, you should immediately notify the doctor to be checked and monitored promptly.

Your Water Broke

Many movies show that once the amniotic fluid breaks, the baby will be born immediately after. However, this is only the scenario in the movies. In fact, only a small number of pregnant women give birth right after their water breaks. Other women meet their labor a few hours later. It happens in only around 15 percent of births or fewer. So don’t count on the water breaking as a sure sign of your labors.

6 Tips for New Mothers when Breastfeeding

breast feeding

Becoming a mother is a wonderful experience. Nothing is as satisfying as looking at your newborn baby grow up stronger and healthier day by day. And to help them grow, breast milk is the best source of nutrients for your baby. It will give them everything they need to develop their body and protect them from diseases. However, breastfeeding has never been easy at first for new mothers. If you need help in breastfeeding your baby, here are the best tips

1. Know your Baby’s tummy

Most of the mothers start to breastfeed their babies when they start crying. However, you can anticipate your baby’s hunger with some simple signs. They are raising their head rapidly, sticking out their tongue, opening /closing their mouth constantly or sucking on anything near. Whenever you see those signs, offer your breast to them and your baby won’t have to cry to draw your attention.

2. Don’t Count Times

Let your baby decide how long they’re gonna be on your breast. Leave your baby to feed on your first breast and then offer them the second one. Some babies take a long time to eat and some need a longer time to fill their belly. Moreover, don’t try to schedule breastfeeding. As long as they’re feeding regularly, you can let your baby decide when they want to eat.

3. Get Relaxed and Comfortable

Breastfeeding requires you to hold your baby for a long time. If you are not in a good position, you will be uncomfortable quickly. It may hurt your shoulder, neck, and back.  Also, when you are uncomfortable, you will try to change your position and it will disrupt your baby’s meal. That is not good for their health and makes them cry. So you need to get a comfortable position for breastfeeding. Lying on your side with your baby facing you or sitting in a reclined position with your baby in your hand are recommended positions. A large bed or a couch with pillows will be an ideal place for you but if you find any place is more comfortable just use it. Whatever works for you.

4. Your Milk will be Enough

Your breasts have been ready to give your child milk since the day you got pregnant. However, your milk production will depend on your baby’s needs. When your baby sucks your breast, your body releases different kinds of hormones like prolactin and oxytocin to further adjust the amount of milk you will produce.  So it means that the more you breastfeed your child, the more milk you have.

5. Milk Leaking is Neutral

You may find milk leaking from your breast when you think about your baby, when you hear another baby cry or when you haven’t breastfed your baby for some time. It is completely normal as your body becomes more sensitive at this period. This leaking will disappear after a few weeks of breastfeeding your baby. If you find it inconvenient because of the leaks, place a nursing pad in your bra to absorb them.
