1. Practice Daily Toothbrushing For Your Children

You should give your child plenty of water, especially between meals, and guide them to gargle right after eating to clean the teeth.

These are foods that stimulate children to produce more saliva, thereby preventing bacteria from damaging your baby’s teeth. You should let your little ones have some yogurt as well.  Probiotic-rich foods like yogurt can stimulate the growth of probiotics that play a role in reducing the formation of plaque that causes tooth decay. It is recommended that you should take your children to the dentist for check-ups twice a year, every 6 months apart. This is a very good habit to get rid of plaque on their teeth. If you find your child having problems like gingivitis, bleeding when brushing teeth, or tooth pain, you should bring your child to consult your dentist immediately to avoid possible complications later.

There is good news: You will find it easier to breathe because your baby no longer occupies the space of the lungs, helping to reduce the pressure on the chest. For a first-time pregnant mother, this could be a sign of one week before labor. For subsequent births, the process doesn’t often happen until you’re truly in labor.

Your Cervix Dilates

You may notice that your cervix is enlarged, it starts to dilate and efface (thin out)  a few days or weeks before your baby comes. If a prenatal checkup is scheduled, your doctor will help you to check your cervical openness via an internal exam. Each pregnant mother will progress differently. So don’t be worried if your cervix dilates slower than normal.

You Feel Tired And Just Want To Lie Down

The Contractions Are Getting Stronger And More Frequent

Contractions are the most obvious signs of labor. You will feel cramping as the uterus muscles are squeezing in preparation to push the baby out. However, not all contractions mean you’re in labor. You may randomly have contractions before true labor starts. They are called the Braxton-Hicks contractions and considered the “false labor”. You may experience these in the weeks right before your due date. It may be hard to tell the difference between true labor and false labor. To tell if you’re having true labor, here are some tips for you:

  • Real contractions will be stronger,  more painful and more uncomfortable.
  • The contractions do not decrease or disappear when you change positions.
  • The pain will start from the lower back and move gradually to the lower abdomen and finally to your legs.
  • The process of contraction: The frequency of contractions increases continuously and is more painful. The contractions last 30 – 70 seconds and are about 5-7 minutes apart.

Your Vaginal Mucus Changes Its Colors And Consistency

A few days before birth, you may notice more vaginal discharge and maybe a little thicker. The reason is that the mucus plugs the cervix to prevent infection, and will slough off in the uterus. The mucous plug is the cork sealing off your uterus from the outside world. In some cases, when the mucus plug is peeled off, there will be some thickened, pinkish discharge. This sign of birth is called the “bloody show” and it is a good signal that your due date is coming. However, if the contractions have not taken place or the uterus has not expanded by 3-4 cm, you may have to wait a few more days.

Vaginal bleeding is an important sign of labor, you should immediately notify the doctor to be checked and monitored promptly.

Your Water Broke

Many movies show that once the amniotic fluid breaks, the baby will be born immediately after. However, this is only the scenario in the movies. In fact, only a small number of pregnant women give birth right after their water breaks. Other women meet their labor a few hours later. It happens in only around 15 percent of births or fewer. So don’t count on the water breaking as a sure sign of your labors.

6 Tips for New Mothers when Breastfeeding

Becoming a mother is a wonderful experience. Nothing is as satisfying as looking at your newborn baby grow up stronger and healthier day by day. And to help them grow, breast milk is the best source of nutrients for your baby. It will give them everything they need to develop their body and protect them from diseases. 1. Know your Baby’s tummy

Most of the mothers start to breastfeed their babies when they start crying. However, you can anticipate your baby’s hunger with some simple signs. They are raising their head rapidly, sticking out their tongue, opening /closing their mouth constantly or sucking on anything near. Whenever you see those signs, offer your breast to them and your baby won’t have to cry to draw your attention.

2. Don’t Count Times

Let your baby decide how long they’re gonna be on your breast. Leave your baby to feed on your first breast and then offer them the second one. Some babies take a long time to eat and some need a longer time to fill their belly. Moreover, don’t try to schedule breastfeeding. As long as they’re feeding regularly, you can let your baby decide when they want to eat.

3. Get Relaxed and Comfortable

Breastfeeding requires you to hold your baby for a long time. If you are not in a good position, you will be uncomfortable quickly. It may hurt your shoulder, neck, and back.  Also, when you are uncomfortable, you will try to change your position and it will disrupt your baby’s meal. That is not good for their health and makes them cry. So you need to get a comfortable position for breastfeeding. Lying on your side with your baby facing you or sitting in a reclined position with your baby in your hand are recommended positions. A large bed or a couch with pillows will be an ideal place for you but if you find any place is more comfortable just use it. Whatever works for you.

4. Your Milk will be Enough

Your breasts have been ready to give your child milk since the day you got pregnant. However, your milk production will depend on your baby’s needs. When your baby sucks your breast, your body releases different kinds of hormones like prolactin and oxytocin to further adjust the amount of milk you will produce.  So it means that the more you breastfeed your child, the more milk you have.

5. Milk Leaking is Neutral

You may find milk leaking from your breast when you think about your baby, when you hear another baby cry or when you haven’t breastfed your baby for some time. It is completely normal as your body becomes more sensitive at this period. This leaking will disappear after a few weeks of breastfeeding your baby. If you find it inconvenient because of the leaks, place a nursing pad in your bra to absorb them.

6.  Ask for Help with Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding might be uncomfortable when you first feed your baby, but it shouldn’t be a bad experience for you. Try to ask for a professional’s help. Hospital lactation consultants are professionals in this case. The lactation consultants may give you the best advice in breastfeeding and nursing for your child.
